June 19, at 5: Im reposting this from the PUA thread, because I feel as though it is pertinent here as well: On the flip side, the whole reason why we are in this whole mess is, like mentioned above, it is a zero-sum game, that is fought via power and social status. The whole reason we are dealing with this is because America holds all the power. The truth is that Asian fetish is simply one more manifestation of a product that Western men and thus Western society want and acquire through their inordinate amount of power and standing in a geopolitical scale. If that power were to shift, then things would be different.

Tom Ramberg Hi John, As usual your observations are spot on. A mistake that I see being made is that foriegners think that they can move here and insulate themselves from the culture and people by living in gated communities and only having expat friends. I think that maybe this scenario is the breeding ground for the ugly American. I went out of my way to form friendships with local people and am very happy with the results.
Expats / H.K. local, professionals, white collar, coworkers, friends, friends of friends, college students all are welcome to join!!! November 16th, Friday Event from 6pm to 1am at *Fofo by el Willy* (20/F, M88 Willington place, Wellington street, Hong Kong). Door: HK$ with 1 drink.
Many will have a bar or a nightclub where working girls can offer their services without any problems. They are even encouraged to do so in some venues with free entrance and free drinks. It is actually very logical and it can be explained easily. First, most of the clients in these hotels are male who are traveling alone, usually for business purposes. For them, the availability of paid sex is the main reason they will choose a brand over another.
Any hotel with a happening pick-up bar is guaranteed a high-level of occupancy. Second, many clients prefer staying in hotels that have in-house bars because it is a sign they will be girl-friendly. They will feel more comfortable bringing a girl back to their room: That’s what other guests do and the staff is used to it. In the morning, the same people won’t feel too ashamed going to breakfast with a girl half their age and wearing a mini-skirt from the day before. Finally, those bars are money-making machines: They are packed every night, particularly during weekdays because that’s when business people are traveling.
They can charge pretty much any prices they want since the expenses can be claimed to the company. And they draw an important crowd from outside, interested in meeting with hookers and willing to spend hundreds of dollars on alcoholic drinks.

Expat Essentials Hong Kong Living the Life Dating and Marriage Our relocation guide discusses dating and marriage in Hong Kong, including issues such as cross-cultural relationships, the rituals of dating and how marriage is viewed in wider society. Dating and marriage are fraught subjects in Hong Kong.
The story goes like this: Hong Kong women long ruled the roost, making their husbands keep them in designer shoes and handbags. Then, over the last two decades, the rise of the Chinese mainland led to the rise of the Shenzhen mistress, and an increase in the number of ambitious young mainlanders living in the city. In the marriage economy, Hong Kong Cantonese women saw their stocks tumble.
According to the Asia Research Institute, the average age of marriage for women in Hong Kong is now over 30, higher than in the West as a whole, and up five years in just three decades. The male average is slightly older. This leads to two types of people having the most problems finding a partner: But love still finds its way. Hong Kong people do go on dates, and asking a woman out is not an intention to marry.
Dating is traditional in the Western sense — the man is supposed to pay, bring a small gift, possibly take the woman home in a taxi before heading home himself. The Hong Kong woman, stereotype has it, wants it both ways — to be considered an equal and arguably a superior, and still get the benefit of traditional gender roles when it suits her. But remember — the city is full of men and women from elsewhere in China as well as a myriad of other countries, and relying on stereotypes for your information is a dangerous game.

Then-CEO Stephen Green said that “This was a singular and wholly irresponsible attack on the bank’s international compliance procedures”, but subsequent investigation indicated that it was accurate and proved that the bank was involved in money laundering for the Sinaloa Cartel and throughout Mexico.
You are an expat living in Jakarta involved in a relationship with an Indonesian girl? Are you wondering how serious she is with you? We know that the bar scene in Indonesia is very adventurous, and though it is easy to meet a decent girl, you may also end up with someone whose only interest is to suck you dry. There are a lot of expressions to designate these girls but my favourite term is “Professional Girlfriend”: Her job, the one activity that earns her revenue, is to be your girlfriend, or to make you believe she is.
And they are great at it because they are pros. There are some easy things to spot in her behaviour that will help you guess if she’s faking the whole thing or not. I listed 10 of them and I hope they will help you realize if yours is on the game or not: All girls there will be after your money. Your only chance is that she was in such a place by accident, but that never really happens. My ex which I found out was cheating was behaving very strangely with her phone:
Expat guide to Hong Kong: schools
By Warwick Mansell 9: The recent decision by the Hong Kong government to open up more land for school development, including that provided to Harrow International School Hong Kong, may be easing this problem. Two office chairs in the design of information related to business. Assuming you’ve seen Wall Street (the awesome, original one, not the watered-down sequel) – it is a requirement to work in finance, after all – you know something about traders vs. brokers. The traders are like lone wolves who go in and make tons of money by making quick decisions.
Freak thunderstorms also occur relatively often during the summer, so an umbrella should be brought or bought after arrival just in case. There is some risk of typhoons in their July-September season, but they are not common. Snowfall is rare, but transportation networks can sometimes be disrupted in the event of a sudden snowstorm. Despite the fact that winter temperatures in Shanghai are not particularly low, the wind chill factor combined with the high humidity can actually make it feel less comfortable than some much colder places which experience frequent snowfalls.
In between, spring can feature lengthy periods of cloudy, often rainy, weather, while Autumn is generally mild to warm and sunny. Get in[ edit ] Shanghai is one of China’s main travel hubs and getting in from pretty much anywhere is easy.

Ironically, one of the two major entry points for the tens of thousands of illegal migrants arriving every month into Europe, Greece, is the same economy where unemployment is higher now than it was for many Western countries during the Great Depression.

Hi there. I’m an English professional expat, (fifties, Caucasian, average height, slim/medium build, good shape, athletic and active) now living in HK having moved here from England three years ago. I am long time divorced with adult children in the UK.
Although some readers might miss it, I think those who read the blog very closely will notice that this British woman was dating a Chinese man only as a project in connection with writing a general column about interracial dating. She was just dating this man as one of many other tasks to write about her experiences. My only guess is that she has also dated men of many other ethnicities, including non-Asians such as African-Americans and Latinos.
I do oppose her post, or at least the implications from it, or how she characterized the date. Her use of sarcasm was mean-spirited. That said, you have to be fair and realize that if her description of the date is accurate, the man was unworthy. At some point, you have to put your foot down, and even if she is the foreigner in another land, if this man truly wanted to get to know her better, that means respecting her cultural norms and she must respect his.
He ought to take charge. He should be proactively planning the date.
